Hilliard Davidson High School Theatre Press Coverage
2004 Drama Camp
Drama Camp is an annual arts camp sponsored by Hilliard Davidson's Drama Club and staffed by high school theatre students, Davidson's theatre faculty, and volunteer arts professionals. Held the first two weekdays of Winter Vacation, the camp has become a popular activity for students grades K through 5. Children may sign up for one of the two days. The "camping" experience includes large group theatre activities; workshops in storytelling, clowning, instrument making, puppetry, movement, music, theatre games, technical theatre, and crafts; lunch; a performance by Davidson's Giggle Factory; and an informance at the end of the day (a casual performance by the children highlighting some of their activities of the day). Students are assigned a workshop track based upon their grade level; activities that are developmentally appropriate are selected for each track. Each 18-20 students are assigned two group leaders who stay with them the entire day from activity to lunch to activity. Additionally, each workshop has a leader and at least one assistant. Additionally, many of our theatre students' parents volunteer to be extra hands and eyes. Each year, we welcome a large number of returning campers. Drama Camp serves as the theatre departments primary fundraiser of the year. Although highly affordable for the families of the campers, it is allow the Davidson theatre program to continue the quality programming and production work that has long been associated with the department.
